I am an experienced teacher of literature and culture at undergraduate and postgraduate levels. My teaching has focused upon postcolonial, American, British and contemporary literature, and I have held roles at the University of Warwick, Birkbeck, Brunel, and Royal Holloway.
My most recent academic roles have included:
Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the Centre for Caribbean and Diaspora Studies, Goldsmiths University of London. In this post I collected oral histories from the first generation of Windrush children to go through school in the UK, for the Heritage Lottery Fund project ’60 Untold Stories of Black Britain’. 60 Untold Stories of Black Britain
Lecturer in American & English Literature, King’s College London where I taught modules on the Transatlantic in Literature, US Slavery in the Literary Imagination, African American Literature and Music, and Intellectuals of the Black Atlantic.
Postdoctoral Research Associate at the University of Liverpool, working on the Arts and Humanities Research Council ‘Translating Cultures’ Theme, examining and collating research from across more than 100 research projects in 40-plus different disciplines, all on the subject of translation. http://translatingcultures.org.uk/
